Prater: amusement park + nightclub = an adults dreamland

Comments 18 Standard

Wurstelprater in Vienna also known as Prater is basically an adults dreamland! Not only is it a huge amusement park, but it also has bars, restaurants, a beer garden and a nightclub within it. If you are with a group of friends (as I was), I would definitely recommend going at night, not just because of the nightlife, but everything is illuminated and doesn’t have long lines for the rides. This is probably because most children aren’t hanging out at amusement parks at 10pm.

This is a normal amusement park where there are a number of different fun rides and games to choose from. The best-known attraction is the Wiener Riesenrad, which is a giant Ferris wheel. In addition to this, there are many classic fun park favorites, such as bumper cars, carousels, roller coasters, ghost trains, as well as some of the more extreme rides like an ejection seat. If you are not interested in going at night, you can certainly go in the day with friends or family and spend the day out.

The park is open from 10:00 am to 1:00 am daily from March 15 to October 31. Some food stands, restaurants and the nightclub are open throughout the year. There is no entrance fee to get into the park, however each attraction does charge its own fee. Even though it closes in the fall, a Wintermarkt opens next to the Ferris Wheel from mid-November until beginning of January, where you can find traditional Christmas gifts, as well as seasonal food and beverages.

Onto the nightclub, Prater Dome is Austria’s largest nightclub and is open every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, as well as on nights before public holidays. Being in Europe you only to be over 18 to be allowed in. Go early, as the line can get long after 10:30pm and you don’t want to waste time standing in line (especially if you have heels on!). There are two levels with four dance floors, twelve bars and a variety of music to fit everyones taste. I highly suggest going here if you love to dance and enjoy the nightlife. I had an absolute blast and practically had to be dragged away at 5am. Also, a good tip to save money is to have a few drinks at one of the bars in the amusement park before you go in. The drinks are cheaper and there is less competition for the bartenders attention.
